Beautiful Antique Silver & Celluloid Compact

A beautiful late 1800's to early 1900's continental silver and celluloid polygon shaped compact. This unique piece features an inset framed portrait of a lovely lady on the cover and a bevel edged mirror inside. The front and back panels are tortoise shell celluloid bezel set in a finely detailed continental silver frame. The oval frame is also 800 silver. Continental silver is marked 800 which denotes 80% silver content and indicates that this piece was made on the European continent rather than in England or the U.S which held to the sterling standard or 925 silver content. This piece is gorgeous in its detailing and in fine antique condition. There is some foxing to the mirror noticeable at some angles but not others and one small crack near the frame on the back panel of celluloid which is not readily noticeable and is stable. Marked 800 and with makers cartouche. 2 1/4" tall by 3" wide (at widest width). Absolutely gorgeous piece.
