Civil War medical lancet made by J Rogers and Co with leather sheath. This antique surgical lancet dates from the mid-nineteenth century (c1860). While there is some evidence that knives like this were used for bloodletting and other medical procedures.
Steel-bladed lancet with bone handle measures approx. 5" long. Blade is stamped "Rogers Cutlers to Her Majesty" on one side, has a star and cross on the other. This lancet is identical to one in the collection of the Smithsonian National Museum of American History, used by Civil War surgeon John William Stalnaker. A rare piece of medical history in used antique condition. See pictures for details:
-Sheath has a hole in the bottom, Lancet a nick on the tip, Handle a crack on one side
Could use a good cleaning if you want to see the engraving clearly.
Open to reasonable offers. This is in used/preowned condition.
