ANTIQUE ENGLISH GOTHIC RENAISSANCE MEDAL PLAQUE ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST Heavy Bronze.
This is a great item! It is a Plaque or Medal of St John the Baptist.
It depicts a young version of him. Standing in a cathedral type doorway. He is carrying his reed Cross and is dressed in his camel hair covering. There is a Lamb at his left foot, and an Eagle at his right. He looks to have a sprig of honeycomb in his left hand.
Size is 6 3/8" in length and 3" in width. It is about 3/8" in thickness. Has an open back with a hanging hole.
Condition is excellent antique. No damage. Cast in bronze and heavy at 12.7 ounces, or 362 grams. Very well made. No markings or signatures.
I believe this is English, from the Gothic period. Around 1300-1425.
